We are saddened by news of the death of Phyllis Acosta, PhD, on September 30, 2018.
Dr. Acosta's career was focused on nutrition and she was a pioneer in the field of dietary management of metabolic disease. She received a B.A. in Foods and Nutrition from Andrews University in 1955, M.S. in Nutrition from the University of Iowa in 1957, M.P.H. in Nutrition from UCLA in 1966, and Ph.D. in Nutrition from UCLA in 1969. She was an active member of GMDI and SIMD, serving as SIMD Secretarty for several years. She had numerous important contributions, including a key role in development of the Ross Nutrition Support Protocols handbook which for years has been a valuable resource for management of metabolic disorders.  The March issue of Molecular Genetics and Metabolism contains a special memorium in her honor, a small inidcation of the absence the SIMD feels, and our society's debt to her.
